Samsung Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 5

When Apple revealed the iPhone 5 everyone naturally compared the handset to the Samsung Galaxy S3. People compared the cameras of the devices, their displays and browsing speeds. The iPhone 5 is packed with amazing hardware, and in benchmark tests it has beaten the Galaxy S3 a couple of times as well which is a first for iPhone vs Galaxy S battles. However despite this the Samsung Galaxy S3 still appears to be selling better than ever. In fact, Samsung said that when Apple launched the iPhone 5, the Galaxy S3 enjoyed 4 out of its 5 best-selling weeks. The device has sold more than 30 million units already, has beaten the iPhone 4S as the top selling smartphone of 2012, and is currently the most popular handset in the UK (iPhone 5 comes in second place and S3 third). So just what gives the Samsung Galaxy S3 that magic X factor which has made it stand out unlike other Androids?

Samsung Galaxy S3 vs iPhone 5

It seems that despite the iPhone 5 being the more faster of the two on paper, there are many people who still believe the Samsung Galaxy S3 is the better of the duo.

Of course there is nothing wrong with fast, but a smartphone should also be “smart”. While benchmark tests focus on speeds, these don’t tell the whole story of the device.

A device these days has to be able to make calls, browse the internet, take photos, have voice recognition, allow you to pay through NFC and it should be able to record videos. Unfortunately this is where the iPhone 5 starts to fail and why it has frequently been called the most simplest of powerful smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with many more extras than the iPhone 5. For one it lacks customisation, and the S3 offers plenty of it. Some say that iOS is too restrictive and there are limits when it comes to browsing the web.

There were plenty of rumours going around about the iPhone 5 before it was released. Some said that it would come with a holographic keyboard and a video projector and of course fans were jumping up and down at this news. While the device didn’t come with these things, it did show us that fans of Apple want bigger innovation from the iPhone, no matter how radical that particular rumor proved.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with all the bells and whistles that you would ever want on a handset and this is what customers of smartphones want. For instance if you want to take a screenshot with the S3 then all you need to do is swipe your hand over the display. If you are in the middle of writing a text and then decide to call the person instead you can just lift the device up to your ear and the handset will dial them. The Samsung Galaxy S3 also knows when you are looking at the screen and when you turn away it dims the display to conserve battery life. There is also charging wirelessly and NFC support, along with MHL. Users can also enjoy custom ROMs, widgets, launchers and different keyboards. All this shows just what you can do with the powerful hardware Samsung has packed under the S3′s hoods. In the case of the iPhone 5, while it does have power, the functionality is limited in the name of simplicity and keeping things streamlined

Both devices have their place on the market; however it is the Samsung Galaxy S3 that is continuing to break new barriers when it comes to innovative new features. And this may be why buyers are ready to deal with Android’s little known quirks as well as the higher learning curve over iOS.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5 have hardware that is matched, however the features of the S3 ensure that the device has the X Factor. It may not be able to match the iPhone 5 in terms of looks but Samsung has finally found a way to compete with Apple and this is likely the angle future S devices will follow upon.
